Percy the Little Train

A little train has to climb a big hill, and says, β€˜I think I can!’

Percy the snail was a little blue train. He carried sacks of presents to the children on the other side of the mountain. But between the town and the children stood a very big hill.

Bigger trains had said, β€˜Too steep!’ and rolled away. Percy looked at the hill. It was tall and green. Percy puffed out his chest. β€˜I think I can,’ he said. β€˜I think I can.’

Chuff, chuff, chuff, up the slope went Percy. Chuff, chuff, chuff. Halfway up, Percy felt very tired. But he kept saying, β€˜I think I can, I think I can.’ Dev cheered beside the track.

At the top, Percy took a big breath. β€˜I thought I could!’ he said. Then down the other side he went, whoosh! The children were waiting, waving and cheering.

They unloaded the sacks of presents, and the children gave Percy a big hug. β€˜Thank you, little train!’ they cried. And Percy puffed home that evening, singing β€˜I knew I could!’
