Goodnight, Kiki!
Kai finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than he is.
At bedtime, Kai heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Kai pulled the covers to his chin. ‘Who’s there?’ he whispered.
A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Kiki the unicorn. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Kiki. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Kai blinked.
Kai was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ he said kindly. Kiki crawled out, trembling. Kai gave her a warm milk. She said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’
They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Kiki said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Kai laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’
When Kai yawned, Kiki tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Kiki. ‘Goodnight,’ said Kai. And both of them slept soundly.
