Pip and the Map to Treasure Island
Pip finds an old map with a big red X. Time to go hunting for treasure!
Pip was a young pirate, and had a small ship called the Sea Sparrow. One day, Pip found a bottle on the beach. Inside was a rolled-up map with a big red X. ‘Treasure!’ squawked Pippa the parrot.
The map showed how to find an island with a pink coral arch. ‘Let’s go!’ said Pip. With Elsa the puppy at the wheel and Pippa on Pip’s shoulder, the Sea Sparrow set sail. The wind filled the sail.
They sailed past a school of dancing fish and a very big, very friendly whale. They sailed through a rainy cloud and out the other side. At last, Pippa cried, ‘Land ahoy!’ And there was the island.
They followed the map: ten steps past a pink coral arch, then left at the tall rock, then three steps towards the old well. ‘Here!’ said Pip. The red X was painted on a flat, white stone. They dug and dug.
Clunk! The spade hit something hard. It was a chest! Pip opened the lid slowly. Inside lay sailing books and kites. ‘Wow!’ said Elsa. ‘It’s not what I expected,’ said Pip, ‘but it’s wonderful.’
Back on the ship, Pip sat thinking. ‘We can’t keep all this,’ he said. ‘It would be better to share it.’ Pippa squawked, ‘Share! Share!’ So they sailed home and gave the treasure to the seaside fair.
The villagers cheered. They threw a big party on the beach with music and fire and fish stew. ‘This,’ said Pip, looking round at all the happy faces, ‘is the best treasure of all.’
