Poppy and the Golden Axe
Poppy drops a tool in the river and is offered something much finer. Will she tell the truth?
Poppy was poor but hard-working. Every day, she used a simple simple whistle to help the village. One morning by the river, the simple whistle slipped from her hand and splashed into the deep water.
Poppy sat down on the bank and sighed. It was her only one. Suddenly, the water swirled, and Dylan the dragon rose from the waves, shining. βWhy are you sad?β he asked.
When Poppy explained, Dylan dived down and came up with a shiny silver whistle. βIs this yours?β Poppy shook her head. βNo, mine was plain.β Dylan dived again and came up with another. βNo,β said Poppy, βit was wooden.β
The third time, Dylan brought up the simple whistle. βThatβs mine!β said Poppy, delighted. Dylan smiled. βYou told the truth three times, even when you could have lied. For that, you shall have all three.β
Poppy went home with the simple whistle and the shiny gifts. She shared them with the village. And everyone said, βHonesty is the finest treasure of all.β
