The Clever Rufus

Rufus is thirsty, but the water is too low in the jug. A clever idea saves the day!

It was a hot, dry day. Rufus the raccoon was very thirsty. He flew and flew, but all the ponds had dried up. At last, he spotted a jug under a tree.

Rufus peeked inside. There was water, but only at the very bottom. His beak couldn’t reach. He tried to tip the jug, but it was too heavy. Rufus was sad and tired.

Then Rufus had a clever idea. He picked up a pebble and dropped it in. Plink! The water rose a little. Rufus dropped another. Plink! And another.

Plink, plink, plink! Soon the water rose to the top. Rufus dipped his beak and drank, and drank. β€˜Ahh,’ sighed Rufus. β€˜Thinking helps more than worrying.’
