Poppy Looks After the Class Pet
Poppy is in charge of the class pet for the weekend, but it goes missing.
On Friday, Mei the deer said, ‘This weekend, Poppy will take Finn the rabbit home.’ Poppy was thrilled. She carried the cage home like treasure.
On Saturday morning, Poppy went to feed Finn. The cage door was open! The cage was empty! Poppy’s heart fell. She had forgotten to latch it properly. Finn was missing!
Poppy searched everywhere. She looked under the bed. She looked in the bath. Nothing. She wanted to hide the mistake. But Poppy knew that wouldn’t help Finn. She called Hugo.
‘I lost Finn,’ Poppy said. Hugo said, ‘Don’t panic. Let’s look together.’ They tiptoed through the house, whispering. And at last, they heard a tiny rustle under the sofa.
There was Finn, safe and sound, looking sleepy. Poppy scooped Finn up gently, and checked the latch three times. On Monday, Poppy told Mei what had happened. ‘Thank you for being honest,’ said Mei.
‘We all make mistakes,’ said Mei. ‘Poppy fixed it, and that’s what counts.’ And from then on, Poppy was the most careful pet-minder in the class.
