Roar, Hattie, Roar!
Hattie has a tiny voice. One day, it turns out to be just the right size.
In the jungle, everyone had a big voice. Gia the giraffe could roar. Moe the hippo could screech. But Hattie the hedgehog could only make a chirp.
βSpeak up!β said everyone. Hattie tried and tried, but only a chirp came out. Hattie felt sad. βI wish I had a big voice,β she said. Gia gave Hattie a hug. βYou are perfect as you are,β she said.
That night, a storm rolled in. Thunder boomed and rain poured. Baby Moe was lost in the thick leaves. All the big voices called, but the thunder drowned them out.
Hattie listened. Between thunder claps, she heard a faint cry. It was high and thin, the kind of sound that big voices couldnβt hear. Hattie called back with a chirp. And Moe heard it.
Following the tiny sound, Moe found the way home. Everyone cheered. βOnly Hattie could make a sound that carries through the storm!β said Gia. Hattie grinned.
