Rosie and the Wild Hair
Rosie’s hair will not lie flat. Nothing works! What will happen at school photo day?
It was school photo day, and Rosie woke up to find that her hair was sticking up like a bird’s nest. There were curls. There were spikes. There was even a tuft that pointed at the ceiling.
Rosie tried to flatten it with a comb. But the hair just broke the comb in half. ‘Oh no,’ she groaned. ‘I can’t go to school like this!’ She tried again. And again.
By the time Rosie gave up, her hair was wilder than ever. She went to school with her hood pulled right down. But at the school gate, Lola the lion spotted her.
‘Why are you wearing your hood?’ asked Lola. Rosie sighed and pulled it down. Everyone gasped. Then Lola grinned. ‘That’s AMAZING! It looks like a lion’s mane! Can I touch it?’
Soon, a crowd gathered. Freddie the frog said, ‘It looks like a firework!’ Someone else said it looked like a sunflower. Rosie began to smile. She felt a bit like a celebrity.
Photo time came. The photographer sat everyone in rows. ‘Smile!’ She flashed. And in the photo, Rosie sat in the middle with a huge grin, her hair standing up like a crown.
Everyone loved the photo. Some of the other children tried to copy Rosie’s hairstyle the next day. And Rosie learned something: sometimes the thing you think is a problem is just a different kind of wonderful.
