Stone Soup for Everyone, Says Stan
Stan makes soup from a stone, and the whole village adds one thing at a time.
Stan the cow arrived in a village on a cold evening, very hungry. The people shut their doors. βWe have nothing to spare,β they said. Stan sat in the square, thinking.
Then Stan lit a fire and filled a big pot with water. He dropped in a smooth round stone. βIβm making stone soup,β he announced. βItβs magic. It only needs a little something extra.β
Kofi the kitten peeked out. βStone soup?β he said. βI have some cabbage.β Into the pot they went. Then Hana the hedgehog brought herbs. Mateo the elephant brought a bag of rice.
The soup bubbled and smelled wonderful. Soon the whole village gathered round with bowls and spoons. Everyone shared, and there was plenty for all.
βBest soup I ever had,β said Mateo. Stan smiled and fished out the stone. βThe magic wasnβt in the stone,β he said. βIt was in sharing.β And the village was never unfriendly again.
