Stone Soup for Everyone, Says Tara
Tara makes soup from a stone, and the whole village adds one thing at a time.
Tara the koala arrived in a village on a cold evening, very hungry. The people shut their doors. βWe have nothing to spare,β they said. Tara sat in the square, thinking.
Then Tara lit a fire and filled a big pot with water. She dropped in a smooth round stone. βIβm making stone soup,β she announced. βItβs magic. It only needs a little something extra.β
Pippa the rabbit peeked out. βStone soup?β she said. βI have some peas.β Into the pot they went. Then Suki the squirrel brought herbs. Theo the zebra brought a bag of rice.
The soup bubbled and smelled wonderful. Soon the whole village gathered round with bowls and spoons. Everyone shared, and there was plenty for all.
βBest soup I ever had,β said Theo. Tara smiled and fished out the stone. βThe magic wasnβt in the stone,β she said. βIt was in sharing.β And the village was never unfriendly again.
The little lesson

Letβs talk about it
- What did each neighbour add?
