Tariq, the Smallest Superhero

All the big superheroes are too big to fit. But Tariq is just the right size!

In Superhero City, there were many heroes. Beth the bear was super strong. Olive the owl could run super fast. And Tariq the turtle? Tariq was very, very small.

‘You can’t be a superhero,’ said the others, kindly. ‘You’re too tiny.’ Tariq put on his cape. ‘I will be the best tiny hero ever!’ he said. His cape was a bit too big, and it dragged on the ground.

One morning, the alarm bell rang. DING-DONG! Grandma’s ring had rolled into a tiny crack in the floor. ‘Quick!’ said Beth. Beth tried to squeeze in, but she was too big. Olive tried to reach in, but her arm was too short.

‘Let me try,’ said Tariq. He puffed up his chest. He stood up straight. And he wriggled into the crack and brought out the ring. It was a tight squeeze, but Tariq did it!

Everybody cheered. ‘We couldn’t do that!’ said Beth. ‘Thank you, Tariq!’ Olive lifted Tariq on her shoulders. ‘We need you,’ said Olive. ‘You’re the only one who can fit.’

That evening, Tariq sat on a rooftop looking at the glowing city. He smiled. Some days it’s good to be strong. Some days it’s good to be fast. And some days, it’s good to be small.
