Tariq’s Noise in the Night

Tariq hears a strange knock in the night. Who could it be?

It was night, and the stars were out. Tariq the turtle was snuggled in bed, nearly asleep. Then, tap, tap, tap. Tariq sat up. ‘What was that?’

Tariq pulled the blanket up to his nose. Tap, tap, tap went the noise again. Tariq tiptoed to the door and peeked outside. Nobody there. Just the dark.

Tariq went to wake Rufus the rabbit. ‘I heard something,’ whispered Tariq. ‘Let’s find out what it is,’ said Rufus. ‘Together, we aren’t afraid.’

They crept along the path. Tap, tap, tap went the noise. It was coming from behind a big tree. Tariq held Rufus’s hand tightly. ‘One, two, three... Look!’

And there was Dani the duck! ‘Oh, hello,’ said Dani. ‘I’m sorry to wake you. I felt too cold to sleep.’ Tariq felt silly for being afraid. He smiled.

They took Dani home for warm milk and a cosy blanket. Soon all three friends were fast asleep. And the only noise in the night was gentle snoring.
