The Colourful Bazaar of Caleb
Caleb gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help him find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Caleb was holding Kai’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Caleb was alone.
Caleb turned round and round. Everything looked the same. His eyes filled with tears. Then Tessa the turtle leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ she asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Caleb. Tessa gave him sweet dates. ‘Eat that,’ she said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ She rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Beth the bear ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Caleb onto a crate so he could see over the crowd. And there was Kai, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Kai. ‘Me too,’ said Caleb. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
