Rufus and Percy found an old map in a book. It showed a hidden waterfall deep in the rainforest, marked with the words, ‘Follow the singing.’ They packed their backpacks and set off.
A guide named Mia the parrot met them at the edge of the trees. ‘The jungle is full of surprises,’ said Mia. ‘Stay together and listen carefully.’ The three walked deeper into the green.
The path was hard. They crossed a swampy bog, balancing on logs. They climbed a steep, slippery hill. Percy nearly gave up. ‘We can do it,’ said Rufus, ‘if we help each other.’ Rufus held out a hand.
At last, they heard it, a soft musical sound, like a hundred tiny bells. They pushed through the leaves, and gasped. A silver waterfall poured down a cliff, with a rainbow in the mist and glowing blue flowers all around.
‘It’s the Singing Falls,’ whispered Mia. ‘The water makes music as it hits the stones.’ They sat in the cool spray and listened. Rufus thought it was the loveliest sound in the world.
They promised to keep the place secret and safe. On the way home, Percy said, ‘I’m glad you didn’t let me quit.’ Rufus grinned. ‘That’s what friends are for.’
