The Colourful Bazaar of Uma
Uma gets lost in a busy market, but kind strangers help her find the way.
The market was full of colours and noise. Red spices, golden scarves and baskets of fruit were piled high. Uma was holding Kira’s hand, but a crowd swept between them, and suddenly Uma was alone.
Uma turned round and round. Everything looked the same. Her eyes filled with tears. Then Ollie the owl leaned over a stall. ‘Are you lost, little one?’ he asked in a soft voice.
‘I can’t find my friend,’ sniffed Uma. Ollie gave her candied nuts. ‘Eat that,’ he said, ‘and we’ll find them together.’ He rang a bell and called to the other sellers.
Word spread from stall to stall. Louie the lamb ran ahead to look. A merchant lifted Uma onto a crate so she could see over the crowd. And there was Kira, searching just as hard!
They threw their arms round each other. ‘I was so scared!’ said Kira. ‘Me too,’ said Uma. They thanked everyone. And from that day on, they always held hands in busy places.
