The Egg-and-Spoon Race of Wally
Wally comes last in the race, but wins something more special than a medal.
It was Sports Day, and the field was full of flags and cheering parents. Wally lined up for the egg-and-spoon race. His tummy fluttered. He wanted to win very much.
βReady, steady, GO!β Noah zoomed ahead. Wally ran as fast as he could. But halfway, the egg rolled off. Wally wobbled and fell behind. One by one, the others crossed the finish line.
Wally came last. His eyes began to water. But then he heard something. Everyone was clapping and shouting, βCome on, Wally! You can do it!β He wiped his eyes, and kept going.
When Wally crossed the line, the whole field roared. Noah ran over and hugged him. βYou never gave up,β said Noah. βThatβs more brave than winning.β
Pip gave Wally a special sticker: βBest Try of the Day.β Wally wore it all afternoon. It shone brighter than any medal.
