Bella and Ella found an old map in a book. It showed a hidden waterfall deep in the rainforest, marked with the words, ‘Follow the singing.’ They packed their backpacks and set off.
A guide named Esme the elephant met them at the edge of the trees. ‘The jungle is full of surprises,’ said Esme. ‘Stay together and listen carefully.’ The three walked deeper into the green.
The path was hard. They crossed a swampy bog, balancing on logs. They climbed a steep, slippery hill. Ella nearly gave up. ‘We can do it,’ said Bella, ‘if we help each other.’ Bella held out a hand.
At last, they heard it, a soft musical sound, like a hundred tiny bells. They pushed through the leaves, and gasped. A silver waterfall poured down a cliff, with a rainbow in the mist and shining crystals all around.
‘It’s the Singing Falls,’ whispered Esme. ‘The water makes music as it hits the stones.’ They sat in the cool spray and listened. Bella thought it was the loveliest sound in the world.
They promised to keep the place secret and safe. On the way home, Ella said, ‘I’m glad you didn’t let me quit.’ Bella grinned. ‘That’s what friends are for.’
