The Lost Crown of Oscar

The royal crown has vanished! Oscar follows the clues round the castle.

One morning, Oscar woke up and the royal crown was gone! It was not on its cushion. It was not under the bed. β€˜Somebody has taken it,’ said Oscar. β€˜Come on, Gus. Let’s find it.’

First, they found a trail of tiny, sparkly footprints on the floor. β€˜Look!’ said Gus. They followed the footprints up the stairs and down the corridor, round and round the castle.

Then Oscar found a golden thread caught on a door. And then a shiny feather. And then a smudge of jam. Each clue was a little piece of the puzzle. Oscar thought hard.

Finally the clues led to a toy chest in the nursery. And there was the crown! It had been taken by a baby who wanted to play king. It was only borrowed, not stolen.

Oscar wasn’t cross. He gently took the crown back and gave Rufus a shiny button to keep instead. Rufus smiled and skipped away. Gus said, β€˜You’re a great detective, Oscar.’

That evening, Oscar put the crown safely on its cushion. He smiled. A good king or queen is not the one with the crown, but the one who stays calm and solves the problem.
