Tomas’s Wizard’s Apprentice and the Wrong Spell
Tomas is trying to tidy up with a spell, but a few words get muddled. Everything goes bonkers!
Tomas was the wizard’s apprentice. Today, Wizard Otto the owl was out, and the tower was in a terrible mess. ‘I’ll use magic to tidy up!’ said Tomas. ‘How hard can it be?’
Tomas flicked his wand and said the words from the big spell book: ‘Tidy-tum, tidy-tee, put things where they ought to be!’ But he was in such a hurry that he muddled the words.
POOF! The teapot suddenly turned into a dancing frog! It went croak, croak, croak all around the room. Tomas’s mouth fell open. ‘Oh no. Oh no, no, no.’
Tomas tried again. POOF! The ink pot started singing. POOF! The candles began to dance. Things were getting sillier by the second. ‘Stop, stop, STOP!’ cried Tomas.
Just then, the door creaked open. It was Otto the owl, back from the market. He stood quite still, looking at the dancing candles and the singing ink. Tomas gulped.
‘I’m sorry,’ Tomas said quickly. ‘I tried to do a spell and got the words wrong. I should have waited for you.’ Otto didn’t shout. He gave a kind, wrinkly smile.
‘Mistakes are how wizards learn,’ said Otto. Together they said the words slowly and carefully, and everything went back to normal. And this time, Tomas tidied up the old-fashioned way, with a broom.
