Where Is Percy? Ask Zane
Zane is in charge of the class pet for the weekend, but it goes missing.
On Friday, Pippa the pony said, ‘This weekend, Zane will take Percy the kitten home.’ Zane was thrilled. He carried the cage home like treasure.
On Saturday morning, Zane went to feed Percy. The cage door was open! The cage was empty! Zane’s heart fell. He had forgotten to latch it properly. Percy was missing!
Zane searched everywhere. He looked under the bed. He looked in the bath. Nothing. He wanted to hide the mistake. But Zane knew that wouldn’t help Percy. He called Priya.
‘I lost Percy,’ Zane said. Priya said, ‘Don’t panic. Let’s look together.’ They tiptoed through the house, whispering. And at last, they heard a tiny rustle in the laundry basket.
There was Percy, safe and sound, looking sleepy. Zane scooped Percy up gently, and checked the latch three times. On Monday, Zane told Pippa what had happened. ‘Thank you for being honest,’ said Pippa.
‘We all make mistakes,’ said Pippa. ‘Zane fixed it, and that’s what counts.’ And from then on, Zane was the most careful pet-minder in the class.
