Who Is Making That Noise, Bruno?

Bruno hears a strange knock in the night. Who could it be?

It was night, and the stars were out. Bruno the bee was snuggled in bed, nearly asleep. Then, tick, tick, tick. Bruno sat up. ‘What was that?’

Bruno pulled the blanket up to his nose. Tick, tick, tick went the noise again. Bruno tiptoed to the door and peeked outside. Nobody there. Just the dark.

Bruno went to wake Dani the deer. ‘I heard something,’ whispered Bruno. ‘Let’s find out what it is,’ said Dani. ‘Together, we aren’t afraid.’

They crept along the path. Tick, tick, tick went the noise. It was coming from behind a big tree. Bruno held Dani’s hand tightly. ‘One, two, three... Look!’

And there was Zoe the little bird! ‘Oh, hello,’ said Zoe. ‘I’m sorry to wake you. I was hungry and a little bit lonely.’ Bruno felt silly for being afraid. He smiled.

They took Zoe home for warm milk and a cosy blanket. Soon all three friends were fast asleep. And the only noise in the night was gentle snoring.
