Who Took Rory’s Crown?
The royal crown has vanished! Rory follows the clues round the castle.
One morning, Rory woke up and the royal crown was gone! It was not on its cushion. It was not under the bed. ‘Somebody has taken it,’ said Rory. ‘Come on, Felix. Let’s find it.’
First, they found a trail of tiny, sparkly footprints on the floor. ‘Look!’ said Felix. They followed the footprints up the stairs and down the corridor, round and round the castle.
Then Rory found a golden thread caught on a door. And then a shiny feather. And then a smudge of jam. Each clue was a little piece of the puzzle. Rory thought hard.
Finally the clues led to a toy chest in the nursery. And there was the crown! It had been taken by a baby who wanted to play king. It was only borrowed, not stolen.
Rory wasn’t cross. He gently took the crown back and gave Lola a shiny button to keep instead. Lola smiled and skipped away. Felix said, ‘You’re a great detective, Rory.’
That evening, Rory put the crown safely on its cushion. He smiled. A good king or queen is not the one with the crown, but the one who stays calm and solves the problem.
