A Night in the Igloo with Zeke
Zeke builds an igloo with her family and has a snug night under the northern lights.
Zeke lived in a land of ice and snow. One bright, cold morning, Zeke said, ‘Let’s build an igloo!’ With Lena the piglet, he cut blocks of snow and stacked them in a ring.
Block by block, the dome grew higher. Soon there was a round white house with a little doorway. Inside, it was dim and snug. Zeke laid down furs, a lantern and warm bread.
That night, they ate warm bread and told stories. Outside the wind howled, but in the igloo it was warm. Lena snuggled up. ‘This is the best house,’ she said, yawning.
Then Zeke crept outside. The sky was dancing! Green and purple ribbons of light swirled across the stars, the northern lights. Zeke gasped. Lena came out too. They stood quietly and watched.
Later, tucked in under the furs, Zeke whispered, ‘Goodnight, igloo.’ And as the aurora flickered over the snow, Zeke fell asleep with a smile.
