Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga, choo, choo. The little night train rolled into the station. It was painted dark blue with silver stars. ‘All aboard for Dreamland!’ called the driver softly.
Yusuf the bear climbed aboard in his nightcap, yawning. ‘Ticket, please,’ said the driver. Yusuf handed over a little piece of paper. There was a seat by the window, with a soft, squashy cushion.
At Dreamy Junction, the train stopped. Layla the piglet hopped on, carrying a teddy. ‘May I sit here?’ asked Layla. ‘Of course,’ whispered Yusuf. They shared a blanket.
Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga. The train went over a gentle hill. It went through a tunnel of stars. Outside the window, fields of silver passed by. Holly the hedgehog joined them.
Chugga... Chugga... Chugga... The train slowed down. Its rhythm was soft and slow, like a heartbeat. Yusuf’s head rested on Layla’s shoulder. Layla’s head rested on Holly.
‘Next stop, Dreamland,’ whispered the driver. But the passengers were already there, fast asleep. Chugga... Chugga... Shhh.
