The trees were wearing red, orange and gold. All day, leaves floated down, tick, tick, tick. Hattie and Kira the monkey took rakes to the garden. ‘Let’s make a leaf pile!’ said Hattie.
They raked and raked. The pile grew as tall as Kira. Then as tall as Hattie. Then Freddie the fox popped out of the pile. ‘Surprise!’ he laughed. Freddie had been napping inside.
‘Let’s jump!’ said Hattie. One, two, three, and WHOOSH! They flew into the leaves. Crunch! Leaves flew everywhere like confetti. They giggled so much they couldn’t stop.
When they were tired, they sat down and made a leaf picture from the prettiest leaves. Hattie found a golden one the size of a plate. ‘Look at this!’ she cried.
As the sun went down, a gust of wind blew the leaf pile all over again. ‘Let’s do it again tomorrow!’ said Kira. And they did.
