Ben Bakes a Birthday Cake
Ben bakes a cake for Kira’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Kira’s birthday tomorrow, and Ben wanted to make a special surprise. He decided to bake a carrot cake. Tilly the pony gave him a recipe.
Ben mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. He spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then he waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Ben took out the cake, it had came out lopsided. Ben’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ he said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Tilly smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Ben carried it carefully to Kira’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Kira gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Ben blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ he said. Kira said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
