Danny Bakes a Birthday Cake
Danny bakes a cake for Manu’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Manu’s birthday tomorrow, and Danny wanted to make a special surprise. He decided to bake a strawberry cake. Pippa the pony gave him a recipe.
Danny mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. He spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then he waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Danny took out the cake, it had cracked on top. Danny’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ he said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Pippa smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Danny carried it carefully to Manu’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Manu gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Danny blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ he said. Manu said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
