Benji’s Surprise Cake
Benji bakes a cake for Louie’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Louie’s birthday tomorrow, and Benji wanted to make a special surprise. He decided to bake a chocolate cake. Vik the deer gave him a recipe.
Benji mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. He spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then he waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Benji took out the cake, it had cracked on top. Benji’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ he said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Vik smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Benji carried it carefully to Louie’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Louie gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Benji blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ he said. Louie said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
