Juno’s Wobbly Cake for Opal
Juno bakes a cake for Opal’s birthday. It doesn’t turn out as planned, but it tastes wonderful.
It was Opal’s birthday tomorrow, and Juno wanted to make a special surprise. She decided to bake a strawberry cake. Omar the elephant gave her a recipe.
Juno mixed butter, sugar, eggs and flour. She spooned the batter into a tin and popped it in the oven. Then she waited. And waited. It smelled so good!
But when Juno took out the cake, it had leaned like a tower. Juno’s heart sank too. ‘Oh no,’ she said. ‘It’s a mess.’ Omar smiled. ‘Let’s decorate it.’
They covered it with thick icing, sprinkles and candles. It still leaned a bit, but it looked cheerful. Juno carried it carefully to Opal’s party.
‘SURPRISE!’ Opal gasped. ‘A cake! For me?’ Juno blushed. ‘It’s not perfect,’ she said. Opal said, ‘It’s the best cake in the world, because you made it.’ Everyone sang, and ate every last crumb.
