Ben’s Sidekick Who Saved the Day
Captain Otto has a bad cold and can’t use any superpowers. Sidekick Ben has to save the day!
Captain Otto the lion was the strongest superhero in the city. He could lift buses and fly over buildings. And Ben the bee was his sidekick, who always carried the snacks.
One morning, Captain Otto woke up sneezing. ‘A-A-A-CHOO!’ He had a terrible cold. His nose was red and his cape was soggy. ‘I can’t fly,’ he sniffled. ‘I can’t lift anything.’
Just then, the alarm rang. DING-DONG! In the city, a pile of flour sacks was about to fall from a cart. ‘Quick, Ben!’ said Captain Otto, wiping his nose. ‘You’ll have to go.’ Ben gulped. ‘Me?’
Ben ran to the scene. A crowd had gathered, looking worried. Dot the deer said, ‘Where’s the Captain?’ ‘He’s sick,’ said Ben. ‘But I’m here. I’ll fix it!’
Ben wasn’t strong, but he was clever. He looked at the problem from every side. Then he had an idea. He tied them up with a rope and held the end tight. And it worked!
The crowd burst into cheers. ‘Hooray for Ben!’ they shouted. Ben blushed so hard that his ears went pink. He had done it all himself.
Back home, Captain Otto was sipping hot lemon. ‘You saved the day,’ said Otto, between sneezes. ‘From now on, you’re not a sidekick. You’re my partner.’ And Ben got a brand-new cape with a golden star.
