Brave Little Hattie
Hattie is a brave knight by day, but at night, the dark castle is very spooky.
Hattie was the bravest knight in the kingdom. She had a shiny helmet and a wooden sword. In the daytime, she was not afraid of anything. But at night, in the dark castle, she felt a little shaky.
The shadows looked like monsters. The creaks sounded like growls. Hattie pulled the blanket up to her nose. βIβm a knight,β she whispered. βKnights arenβt scared.β But she was.
Then Isla the rabbit climbed onto the bed. βDo you want to go for a walk?β asked Isla. βI have a glow-worm jar.β Hattie nodded. Together they tiptoed into the hall.
The monster in the corner was only a coat on a hook. The growl was the wind in the chimney. The big shadow was Hattieβs own shadow, waving back. Hattie began to giggle.
βThe dark isnβt so scary with a friend and some light,β said Hattie. Isla snuggled close. And Hattie climbed back into bed, with a glow-worm jar glowing softly beside her, and fell fast asleep.
