Cleo’s Hat That Flew Away
A gust of wind blows Cleo’s hat away, and it lands in some very silly places.
Cleo the monkey had a new purple top hat. It was the best hat in the whole world. Cleo wore it to the park and spun round and round. ‘Look at me!’ she cried.
But then, WHOOSH! A strong gust of wind blew by and plucked the hat right off Cleo’s head! It flew up, up, up into the sky. ‘My hat!’ shouted Cleo. ‘Come back!’
Cleo ran after it. The hat sailed over the fence and landed on the head of a scarecrow. ‘Oh dear,’ said Elsa, who had come running. ‘How will we get it back?’ But then WHOOSH! The hat blew away again.
It bounced on a haystack. It spun round the weather vane. It dropped into a bucket and flipped out again. Cleo, Elsa and Pippa the puppy chased it everywhere.
At last, the wind got tired. The hat drifted down, down, down, and landed with a soft plop on Cleo’s head, right where it belonged. Everybody stared. Then everybody cheered!
‘I think the wind just wanted to dance,’ laughed Elsa. Cleo took a ribbon and tied it under her chin. Now the hat would stay on. And if the wind wanted to dance again, Cleo would dance with it.
The little lesson
If you lose something, keep a sense of humour and keep looking.
Let’s talk about it
- Where did the hat land first?
- What would you do if your hat blew away?
