Vera’s Hat That Wouldn’t Stay On
A gust of wind blows Vera’s hat away, and it lands in some very silly places.
Vera the zebra had a new green party hat. It was the best hat in the whole world. Vera wore it to the park and spun round and round. ‘Look at me!’ she cried.
But then, WHOOSH! A strong gust of wind blew by and plucked the hat right off Vera’s head! It flew up, up, up into the sky. ‘My hat!’ shouted Vera. ‘Come back!’
Vera ran after it. The hat sailed over the fence and landed on a startled sheep. ‘Oh dear,’ said Lola, who had come running. ‘How will we get it back?’ But then WHOOSH! The hat blew away again.
It bounced on a haystack. It spun round the weather vane. It dropped into a bucket and flipped out again. Vera, Lola and Pippa the piglet chased it everywhere.
At last, the wind got tired. The hat drifted down, down, down, and landed with a soft plop on Vera’s head, right where it belonged. Everybody stared. Then everybody cheered!
‘I think the wind just wanted to dance,’ laughed Lola. Vera took a ribbon and tied it under her chin. Now the hat would stay on. And if the wind wanted to dance again, Vera would dance with it.
