Cosmo’s Soup Mix-Up
Cosmo is making soup, but the sugar and salt got swapped, and so did a few other things!
Cosmo the cow was cooking soup for dinner. He chopped pumpkin. He stirred and stirred. The kitchen smelled almost ready. ‘Now for the seasoning,’ said Cosmo, humming.
But Cosmo wasn’t looking carefully. He grabbed the wrong jar. In went a whole jar of pepper! Cosmo gave the soup a big stir. It looked okay. It smelled okay. He didn’t know about the mistake yet.
Soon, Zara the zebra and Wally the rabbit arrived, rubbing their tummies. ‘Soup’s ready!’ said Cosmo proudly. Everybody sat down. Everybody picked up a spoon.
Zara took a big slurp. Zara’s eyes went round. Wally took a mouthful. Wally’s whiskers curled. It was so hot they sneezed! ‘Hmm,’ said Zara. ‘It’s... Interesting.’
Cosmo took a taste. ‘Oh no!’ he gasped. ‘I used the wrong jar!’ His ears went pink. He wanted to hide under the table. But Wally burst into giggles, and then Zara did too.
‘Let’s fix it!’ said Zara. They added a bit of this and a bit of that. Some extra pumpkin, a squeeze of lemon, a pinch of the right seasoning. They tasted again. ‘Perfect!’
They ate every drop. ‘It’s the best soup ever,’ said Zara. ‘Even better than the first one,’ said Wally. Cosmo laughed. ‘Okay,’ he said, ‘but next time, I’m reading the labels.’
