Freddie the dinosaur was having a sleepover! Dani the duck and Bella the turtle were coming, and they’d brought pillows, blankets and teddies.
First, they built a blanket fort. Then they had a midnight feast of pink cupcakes. Freddie laughed so much that his big tail knocked over the lamp.
Then it was time for bed. Freddie climbed into his big, comfy bed. ‘Goodnight,’ said Dani. ‘Goodnight,’ said Bella. The light went off, and the room became very dark.
Freddie lay awake. He thought about how very big and dark the night was. His tail twitched. ‘Are you awake?’ whispered Dani. ‘I can’t sleep,’ said Freddie.
‘I can’t either,’ said Bella. ‘I have an idea,’ said Dani, and pulled out a candle in a leaf lantern. The room filled with a warm, soft glow. The dark didn’t feel big anymore.
The three friends snuggled together, looking at the light until their eyes grew heavy. Soon, all that could be heard was three tiny snores. And one great big dino snore.
The little lesson
Sharing a little light and a lot of friendship makes the dark feel cosy.
