Leo Looks After the Class Pet
Leo is in charge of the class pet for the weekend, but it goes missing.
On Friday, Caleb the elephant said, ‘This weekend, Leo will take Chloe the mouse home.’ Leo was thrilled. He carried the cage home like treasure.
On Saturday morning, Leo went to feed Chloe. The cage door was open! The cage was empty! Leo’s heart fell. He had forgotten to latch it properly. Chloe was missing!
Leo searched everywhere. He looked under the bed. He looked in the bath. Nothing. He wanted to hide the mistake. But Leo knew that wouldn’t help Chloe. He called Milo.
‘I lost Chloe,’ Leo said. Milo said, ‘Don’t panic. Let’s look together.’ They tiptoed through the house, whispering. And at last, they heard a tiny rustle on top of the fridge.
There was Chloe, safe and sound, looking sleepy. Leo scooped Chloe up gently, and checked the latch three times. On Monday, Leo told Caleb what had happened. ‘Thank you for being honest,’ said Caleb.
‘We all make mistakes,’ said Caleb. ‘Leo fixed it, and that’s what counts.’ And from then on, Leo was the most careful pet-minder in the class.
