Sports Day with Ollie
Ollie comes last in the race, but wins something more special than a medal.
It was Sports Day, and the field was full of flags and cheering parents. Ollie lined up for the sack race. His tummy fluttered. He wanted to win very much.
‘Ready, steady, GO!’ Alfie zoomed ahead. Ollie ran as fast as he could. But halfway, a shoelace came undone. Ollie wobbled and fell behind. One by one, the others crossed the finish line.
Ollie came last. His eyes began to water. But then he heard something. Everyone was clapping and shouting, ‘Come on, Ollie! You can do it!’ He wiped his eyes, and kept going.
When Ollie crossed the line, the whole field roared. Alfie ran over and hugged him. ‘You never gave up,’ said Alfie. ‘That’s more brave than winning.’
Omar gave Ollie a special sticker: ‘Best Try of the Day.’ Ollie wore it all afternoon. It shone brighter than any medal.
