Max Meets a Monster
Max finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than he is.
At bedtime, Max heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Max pulled the covers to his chin. ‘Who’s there?’ he whispered.
A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Dev the dinosaur. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Dev. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Max blinked.
Max was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ he said kindly. Dev crawled out, trembling. Max gave him a night-light. He said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’
They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Dev said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Max laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’
When Max yawned, Dev tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Dev. ‘Goodnight,’ said Max. And both of them slept soundly.
