Mei and the Super Squeeze
All the big superheroes are too big to fit. But Mei is just the right size!
In Superhero City, there were many heroes. Harvey the hippo was super strong. Benji the bear could run super fast. And Mei the mouse? Mei was very, very small.
‘You can’t be a superhero,’ said the others, kindly. ‘You’re too tiny.’ Mei put on her cape. ‘I will be the best tiny hero ever!’ she said. Her cape was a bit too big, and it dragged on the ground.
One morning, the alarm bell rang. DING-DONG! A lost button was caught behind a clock. ‘Quick!’ said Harvey. Harvey tried to squeeze in, but he was too big. Benji tried to reach in, but his arm was too short.
‘Let me try,’ said Mei. She puffed up her chest. She stood up straight. And she crept behind the clock and pushed the button out. It was a tight squeeze, but Mei did it!
Everybody cheered. ‘We couldn’t do that!’ said Harvey. ‘Thank you, Mei!’ Benji lifted Mei on his shoulders. ‘We need you,’ said Benji. ‘You’re the only one who can fit.’
That evening, Mei sat on a rooftop looking at the glowing city. She smiled. Some days it’s good to be strong. Some days it’s good to be fast. And some days, it’s good to be small.
