Mia Climbs the Hill

A little train has to climb a big hill, and says, β€˜I think I can!’

Mia the mouse was a little blue train. She carried boxes of cakes to the children on the other side of the mountain. But between the town and the children stood a very big hill.

Bigger trains had said, β€˜Too steep!’ and rolled away. Mia looked at the hill. It was tall and green. Mia puffed out her chest. β€˜I think I can,’ she said. β€˜I think I can.’

Chuff, chuff, chuff, up the slope went Mia. Chuff, chuff, chuff. Halfway up, Mia felt very tired. But she kept saying, β€˜I think I can, I think I can.’ Enzo cheered beside the track.

At the top, Mia took a big breath. β€˜I thought I could!’ she said. Then down the other side she went, whoosh! The children were waiting, waving and cheering.

They unloaded the boxes of cakes, and the children gave Mia a big hug. β€˜Thank you, little train!’ they cried. And Mia puffed home that evening, singing β€˜I knew I could!’
