Milo the Sidekick
Captain Rosie has a bad cold and can’t use any superpowers. Sidekick Milo has to save the day!
Captain Rosie the bear was the strongest superhero in the city. He could lift buses and fly over buildings. And Milo the mouse was her sidekick, who always carried the snacks.
One morning, Captain Rosie woke up sneezing. ‘A-A-A-CHOO!’ She had a terrible cold. Her nose was red and her cape was soggy. ‘I can’t fly,’ she sniffled. ‘I can’t lift anything.’
Just then, the alarm rang. DING-DONG! In the city, a huge boulder was blocking the bridge. ‘Quick, Milo!’ said Captain Rosie, wiping her nose. ‘You’ll have to go.’ Milo gulped. ‘Me?’
Milo ran to the scene. A crowd had gathered, looking worried. Sam the squirrel said, ‘Where’s the Captain?’ ‘He’s sick,’ said Milo. ‘But I’m here. I’ll fix it!’
Milo wasn’t strong, but he was clever. He looked at the problem from every side. Then he had an idea. He used a plank as a lever to roll it away. And it worked!
The crowd burst into cheers. ‘Hooray for Milo!’ they shouted. Milo blushed so hard that his ears went pink. He had done it all himself.
Back home, Captain Rosie was sipping hot lemon. ‘You saved the day,’ said Rosie, between sneezes. ‘From now on, you’re not a sidekick. You’re my partner.’ And Milo got a brand-new cape with a golden star.
