Oscar’s Colourful Hide-and-Seek

Oscar the octopus is the best hider in the sea. Can anybody find him?

Oscar the octopus could do a clever trick. He could change colour to match anything! Today, he wanted to play hide-and-seek with Caleb and Jess.

‘One, two, three, four, five,’ counted Caleb, covering his eyes. Oscar wriggled away through the water. He swam to the yellow sand. And he turned yellow! His arms and body blended in.

Caleb opened his eyes. ‘Ready or not, here I come!’ Caleb swam over the sandy bed. ‘Are you under this shell? No.’ Caleb looked behind the rock. ‘No.’ Caleb looked inside a bottle. ‘No.’

Jess looked up and down. ‘Where could Oscar be?’ Jess wondered. They looked all over the sea. Nothing. They looked a second time. Nothing. They were completely stumped.

Then Caleb giggled. ‘I can see two eyes!’ Two big eyes were peeking out from the yellow sand, and they were blinking. Oscar burst out laughing, turned back to normal, and everyone cheered.

‘Your turn to hide!’ said Oscar. And so they played again and again, until the water grew dark. They went home with tired fins and happy hearts, and all dreamed of colourful sea games.
