Otto Meets a Monster
Otto finds a monster under the bed. It turns out to be even more scared than he is.
At bedtime, Otto heard a noise. Snuffle, snuffle, rustle. It was coming from under the bed. Otto pulled the covers to his chin. ‘Who’s there?’ he whispered.
A pair of big yellow eyes peeked out. Then a fluffy paw. It was Ben the dinosaur. ‘Please don’t be cross,’ squeaked Ben. ‘I’m scared of the dark.’ Otto blinked.
Otto was no longer afraid. ‘You can come out,’ he said kindly. Ben crawled out, trembling. Otto gave him a biscuit. He said, ‘Thank you. You’re nice.’
They sat together on the bed, sharing the blanket. They talked about everything. Ben said, ‘I live under beds because they’re cosy.’ Otto laughed. ‘You can visit whenever you like.’
When Otto yawned, Ben tiptoed back under the bed. ‘Goodnight,’ whispered Ben. ‘Goodnight,’ said Otto. And both of them slept soundly.
