Pippa’s First Treasure Map
Pippa finds an old map with a big red X. Time to go hunting for treasure!
Pippa was a young pirate, and had a small ship called the Sea Sparrow. One day, Pippa found a bottle on the beach. Inside was a rolled-up map with a big red X. ‘Treasure!’ squawked Priya the parrot.
The map showed how to find an island with a giant palm tree. ‘Let’s go!’ said Pippa. With Pearl the panda at the wheel and Priya on Pippa’s shoulder, the Sea Sparrow set sail. The wind filled the sail.
They sailed past a school of dancing fish and a very big, very friendly whale. They sailed through a rainy cloud and out the other side. At last, Priya cried, ‘Land ahoy!’ And there was the island.
They followed the map: ten steps past a giant palm tree, then left at the tall rock, then three steps towards the old well. ‘Here!’ said Pippa. The red X was painted on a flat, white stone. They dug and dug.
Clunk! The spade hit something hard. It was a chest! Pippa opened the lid slowly. Inside lay old toys and teddy bears. ‘Wow!’ said Pearl. ‘It’s not what I expected,’ said Pippa, ‘but it’s wonderful.’
Back on the ship, Pippa sat thinking. ‘We can’t keep all this,’ she said. ‘It would be better to share it.’ Priya squawked, ‘Share! Share!’ So they sailed home and gave the treasure to the children at the school.
The villagers cheered. They threw a big party on the beach with music and fire and fish stew. ‘This,’ said Pippa, looking round at all the happy faces, ‘is the best treasure of all.’
