Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga, choo, choo. The little night train rolled into the station. It was painted dark blue with silver stars. ‘All aboard for Dreamland!’ called the driver softly.
Poppy the puppy climbed aboard in her nightcap, yawning. ‘Ticket, please,’ said the driver. Poppy handed over a little piece of paper. There was a seat by the window, with a soft, squashy cushion.
At Moonbeam Halt, the train stopped. Remy the rabbit hopped on, carrying a teddy. ‘May I sit here?’ asked Remy. ‘Of course,’ whispered Poppy. They shared a blanket.
Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga. The train went over a gentle hill. It went through a tunnel of stars. Outside the window, fields of silver passed by. Tara the turtle joined them.
Chugga... Chugga... Chugga... The train slowed down. Its rhythm was soft and slow, like a heartbeat. Poppy’s head rested on Remy’s shoulder. Remy’s head rested on Tara.
‘Next stop, Dreamland,’ whispered the driver. But the passengers were already there, fast asleep. Chugga... Chugga... Shhh.
