Sports Day with Zane
Zane comes last in the race, but wins something more special than a medal.
It was Sports Day, and the field was full of flags and cheering parents. Zane lined up for the running race. His tummy fluttered. He wanted to win very much.
βReady, steady, GO!β Oscar zoomed ahead. Zane ran as fast as he could. But halfway, a tiny pebble got in a shoe. Zane wobbled and fell behind. One by one, the others crossed the finish line.
Zane came last. His eyes began to water. But then he heard something. Everyone was clapping and shouting, βCome on, Zane! You can do it!β He wiped his eyes, and kept going.
When Zane crossed the line, the whole field roared. Oscar ran over and hugged him. βYou never gave up,β said Oscar. βThatβs more brave than winning.β
Kai gave Zane a special sticker: βBest Try of the Day.β Zane wore it all afternoon. It shone brighter than any medal.
