Stan’s Sidekick Who Saved the Day
Captain Gia has a bad cold and can’t use any superpowers. Sidekick Stan has to save the day!
Captain Gia the giraffe was the strongest superhero in the city. He could lift buses and fly over buildings. And Stan the squirrel was her sidekick, who always carried the snacks.
One morning, Captain Gia woke up sneezing. ‘A-A-A-CHOO!’ She had a terrible cold. Her nose was red and her cape was soggy. ‘I can’t fly,’ she sniffled. ‘I can’t lift anything.’
Just then, the alarm rang. DING-DONG! In the city, a pile of flour sacks was about to fall from a cart. ‘Quick, Stan!’ said Captain Gia, wiping her nose. ‘You’ll have to go.’ Stan gulped. ‘Me?’
Stan ran to the scene. A crowd had gathered, looking worried. Pearl the puppy said, ‘Where’s the Captain?’ ‘He’s sick,’ said Stan. ‘But I’m here. I’ll fix it!’
Stan wasn’t strong, but he was clever. He looked at the problem from every side. Then he had an idea. He tied them up with a rope and held the end tight. And it worked!
The crowd burst into cheers. ‘Hooray for Stan!’ they shouted. Stan blushed so hard that his ears went pink. He had done it all himself.
Back home, Captain Gia was sipping hot lemon. ‘You saved the day,’ said Gia, between sneezes. ‘From now on, you’re not a sidekick. You’re my partner.’ And Stan got a brand-new cape with a golden star.
The little lesson
Everyone can be a hero when it counts, even helpers.
Let’s talk about it
- What does a sidekick do?
- How did Stan use brains instead of muscles?
