Stone Soup for Everyone, Says Rosie
Rosie makes soup from a stone, and the whole village adds one thing at a time.
Rosie the elephant arrived in a village on a cold evening, very hungry. The people shut their doors. βWe have nothing to spare,β they said. Rosie sat in the square, thinking.
Then Rosie lit a fire and filled a big pot with water. She dropped in a smooth round stone. βIβm making stone soup,β she announced. βItβs magic. It only needs a little something extra.β
Zane the pony peeked out. βStone soup?β he said. βI have some potatoes.β Into the pot they went. Then Rufus the raccoon brought herbs. Tomas the tiger brought a bag of rice.
The soup bubbled and smelled wonderful. Soon the whole village gathered round with bowls and spoons. Everyone shared, and there was plenty for all.
βBest soup I ever had,β said Tomas. Rosie smiled and fished out the stone. βThe magic wasnβt in the stone,β she said. βIt was in sharing.β And the village was never unfriendly again.
