Tara and the Big Noise
Tara has a tiny voice. One day, it turns out to be just the right size.
In the jungle, everyone had a big voice. Pearl the pony could roar. Mateo the monkey could screech. But Tara the turtle could only make a squeak.
βSpeak up!β said everyone. Tara tried and tried, but only a squeak came out. Tara felt sad. βI wish I had a big voice,β she said. Pearl gave Tara a hug. βYou are perfect as you are,β she said.
That night, a storm rolled in. Thunder boomed and rain poured. Baby Mateo was lost in the thick leaves. All the big voices called, but the thunder drowned them out.
Tara listened. Between thunder claps, she heard a faint cry. It was high and thin, the kind of sound that big voices couldnβt hear. Tara called back with a squeak. And Mateo heard it.
Following the tiny sound, Mateo found the way home. Everyone cheered. βOnly Tara could make a sound that carries through the storm!β said Pearl. Tara grinned.
