Tara’s Case of the Missing Cookies
Someone has taken every cookie from the cookie jar! Tara the detective is on the case.
Tara the detective put on a hat and picked up a magnifying glass. ‘A case!’ she said. Zeke the zebra was standing in the kitchen with a very sad face. ‘Someone has taken all my cookies,’ said Zeke.
‘First, we look for clues,’ said Tara. She knelt down and examined the floor. There was a smear of chocolate on the door! ‘Aha,’ said Tara. She wrote it in her notebook. ‘Follow me.’
They followed the clue out of the back door and down the garden path. Past the rosebush. Past the old well. Round the corner, right up to a small blue shed. Zeke gulped. ‘Someone’s inside!’
Tara knocked softly. The door creaked open. And there was Poppy the pony, wearing an apron, surrounded by plates and plates of cookies. ‘Oh!’ Poppy said. ‘You’ve found me!’
‘I’m so sorry,’ said Poppy. ‘I borrowed your cookies for the school fair. I wanted to ask you, but you were out. I was going to bake some more to replace them.’ Zeke blinked.
‘You could have just asked,’ said Zeke. ‘I’d have baked more! That’s a very good thing to do.’ Tara closed the notebook. ‘Case closed,’ she said. ‘No crime here, only good cookies.’
So everybody helped bake the rest. And on the day of the school fair, there were more than a hundred cookies to share. Tara was given the very first one, as payment for solving the case.
